Chapter Annual Meeting and Dinner

Four Seasons Banquet Hall, November 3rd, 2007

Post-Event Write-up

The DV Chapter's Annual Dinner, held Nov 3rd at the Four Seasons in Norristown, presented an evening full of good food, information, and socializing with club members. Regional Rep and ex-Chapter Chair Chris Rapacki played MC for the evening (pictured, right), overseeing the election of officers to the Executive Committee. "Appie of the Year" Awards were presented to Rich Wells and Eric Pavlak, and several members were honored for their 25-year membership anniversaries. Presentations were made by Mid-Atlantic Office staff Kristin Sykes and Jennifer Heisey; Conservation Chair Susan Charkes; and global-warming expert Andy Pitz. The main event was a fascinating talk and slide show by Sophia Danenberg, about her climb to the summit of Mt Everest. See more photos of the event.

Mountain Climber Sophia Danenberg

Our speaker will be Sophia Danenberg. Ms. Danenberg was the first African American of either sex to summit Mt Everest, reaching the summit on May 19th, 2006. She and her husband have topped a number of mountains, including Mt Kenya, Mt Kilimanjaro, Mt Rainier and Denali (Mt McKinley).

Want to hear her story? We hope you come to the dinner to hear Sophia speak, ask her questions and meet with your AMC friends. Fill out and return the registration form found in your Fall issue of Footnotes (or print out this PDF file), or contact event registrar Tom Sherwood, tgsher@verizon.net, 610-631-6870. You must pre-register by October 24th.

Global Warming: What Can I Do?

Also on November 3rd, from 2:00 to 5:00pm, the Conservation Committee will host a program on Global Warming at the Plymouth Meeting Friends Meeting House.

Andrew Pitz, Vice President of Strategic Policy and Planning at Natural Lands Trust in Media, PA, will speak about the regional implications of global climate change. Using the slideshow seen in the movie "An Inconvenient Truth" as a jumping-off point, Pitz will present specific regional data and information. He will lead a discussion that will enable everyone to leave the meeting ready to take specific action.

Space for the Global Warming program is limited and RSVP is required. If you are interested in attending, please email conservation@amcdv.org by October 26th.

The Mmeeting House is at the corner of Butler Pike and Germantown Pike in Plymouth Meeting, PA.
