AMC Conservation activities and goals
- Trailwork and trail maintenance are considered Conservation activities
- Mountain Watch (citizen science) – including:
- Forest Flower Watch (new)
- Fall Foliage Monitoring (new)
- Adopt-a-Peak
- Energy campaign (not yet launched; may include
chapter pledge drive; legislation; footprint)
- Wind power siting guidelines
- Conservation Action Network
- Preservation efforts:
- Maine Woods
- Northern Forest --26 million acres in ME, NH, VT, and NY
- Mahoosucs Region --straddles the New Hampshire-Maine border.
- Mid-Atlantic Highlands
- White Mountain National Forest
- Green Mountain National Forest
- Massachusetts Forests and Parks
- Air quality research in White Mts
- River and watershed protection
Chapter Conservation Chair activities and goals
- Develop plan for Highlands involvement with priorities and focus
- Articles for newsletter on how members can
get involved with Club/Chapter
Conservation goals (e.g. energy pledge and/or footprint, Forest Flower
watch, more on Highlands?)
- Recruit volunteers/committee members
- Work with activities chairs to organize Mountain Watch activities
- Promote C.A.N.
Chapter tasks: 2007
- Organize volunteers to work on land
preservation in PA Highlands (+ NJ?)
- Rideshare for activities
- FlowerWatch hike(s)
- Promote Adopt-a-Peak?
- Promote Conservation Action network
- Partner with other organization(s) to organize at least one conservation
activity (opportunity for service) this year, such as cleanup or planting
