Hiking during hunting season is fairly safe provided
that you follow some common-sense guidelines. Accidents
are rare, with fatalaties even rarer. For instance, in
North America in 1998, there were 139 hunting accidents
in which the victim was mistaken for game. Only 22 of
these accidents were fatalities. In many of these
accidents, the mistaken victim was another hunter!
The normal risks associated with hiking (such as getting
lost, not drinking enough, etc.) are much greater than
those associated with hunting.
